Contemporary Kitchen Design Advice

Contemporary equals clean and spacious in most cases, so you're going to have to decide which things you're going to keep in terms of utensils and other kitchen knick-knacks. You certainly won't see many contemporary kitchens with messy, cluttered surfaces. In years gone by the kitchen was solely the domain of the mother or female of the house. Over the years that has changed dramatically what with more single males having to cook for themselves, the rise in popularity of cookery programs with celebrity male chefs and it generally being more accepted for a man to do the cooking. The kitchen used to be the room where the cooking was done the small room at the back of the house with no other real purpose than to prepare meals and maybe to keep the washing machine. Today the kitchen is a focal point of the house. Homes are designed with this in mind, big open plan dining room kitchens that can house grand dining tables, breakfast bars and any amount of seats for guests. Once you've written your list of all the things you absolutely have to have in your ideal contemporary kitchen, you can then figure out storage solutions that will give you that crisp finish. Needless to say, you want to keep things as simple as possible but make sure you have adequate space to keep everything.
In terms of the colour scheme of your surfaces and appliances, this is you opportunity to inject personality and a real individual touch to your design. If you want it all to be stainless steel and clinical white then do just that, but don't feel it's your only way of creating a contemporary space. Bold colours can add real warmth and ambiance to the space. When most people set out to create a contemporary kitchen design they don't have a significant amount of design ideas. They know they want a spacious, modern environment to work in but when it comes to picking out surfaces and appliances it can become more difficult.
