Green Kitchen Design

There are many things to do for your green kitchen. Firstly, you need to reconsider all of the chemical-based dishwasher liquids, floor and surface cleaners, detergents and other cleaning products that you maybe currently using. The first thing you need to do is make sure you don't buy oversized accessories. For example there is no use buying the biggest fridge there is out there if it will take up half of the room. There are many smaller sized fridges that you can buy and still have lots of place around. You might rebel at the idea of having a smaller fridge but don't forget that you need to make do with what you have right now and if this means working with a smaller fridge to make everything fit in the room, so be it.
Also enhancing the lighting in the room will make it look bigger than it is. There are so many kitchen around that have no windows in them, making them look dark, dull and smaller than they are. So adding a light fixture anywhere you can is a good idea and one that you will thoroughly get to enjoy once it is installed. For example you can install smaller lights under your cabinets. You won't be able to actually see the lights but they will have a tremendous effect on your cooking area. Plus they will make it appear very homey and cozy.
Making your small cooking place bigger might also mean a bit of design altering. If you have a door that really blocks off the entrance to the room, what you can do is take it out so you have more space in and out of the place. Also try to use one of the smaller trashcans instead of buying the larger ones and put them in the lower cabinet instead of keeping it outside where are always in danger of bumping in it.
Not only can they possibly make you sick, they are also really harmful for the environment! Go for a natural cleaner, with is biodegradable, try some of the plant-based detergents, and of course, if you have the time, you can make your own cleaner with vinegar and baking soda. The two make a fabulous combination and give you a high-quality all-purpose household cleaner!
Another idea for your green kitchen design is to try and find kitchen fittings, paneling, floors and cabinets that have been used before. Even though you will be purchasing some new products for the kitchen, it's OK to mix in some of your old cabinets and drawers to save money and recycle. You could opt for green counter tops which are made of things like recycled paper, yogurt pots, bamboo, cork flooring, etc. - but be sure to do your research on the materials first!
Do remember to buy durables that will last in the long term. Many stores let you sample the stuff before the purchase, so take that opportunity. Use sharp and heavy objects on these samples (with the exception of food, of course!) - that way, you will get a good idea of the hardness, scratch resistance, and other features of the material.
Also, it's important to ensure that your refrigerator is energy efficient, if it is more than 10 years old, it probably is time to replace it. You should also learn more about the new energy alternatives such as solar or wind, if possible, it is now possible to have a solar refrigerator - ask your supply company. Remember to bring a reusable bag to the grocery store for your groceries. Use water wisely, switch off taps when not in use. The same goes for lights, too. Do refuse plastic of any kind, and always buy organic or bio dynamic food, which has been produced by sustainable agriculture. Try to buy in bulk to save on money, you would also not have to be making frequent trips to the market.
